Tripura to aid homeless
Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb said his government will provide one-time financial assistance of Rs 500 for 92,892 families each living in 12 aspirational blocks and Rs 1,000 per person for 4,600 homeless people across the state from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
In a video that circulated from the chief minister’s office on Sunday, Deb said, “Our government has decided to provide one-time financial assistance of Rs 500 to 92,892 poor indigenous families living in 12 aspiration blocks across the state, which includes four blocks in Dhalai district, three in Gomati, two in Khowai and in North and one block in South district of the state. We will provide it through DBT and Rs 4.65 crore will be required for this purpose.”
Deb also said his government will also provide one-time financial assistance to 4,600 homeless people in the state.
“From our state government every day we are distributing packaged cooked food to the homeless people. Apart from this we have also decided to provide one-time financial assistance of Rs 1,000 each to 4,600 homeless people across the state,” Deb added.
He also appreciated the donations of three minor girls.
“One Aarya Chakraborty, 11, has donated Rs 3,000 from her piggy bank. Poonam Deb, 7, did not celebrate her birthday and donated her savings of Rs 5,000 to our relief funds and Sayantika Deb, 6, also donated her piggy bank to our relief fund,” Deb said.
Earlier on Sunday, law minister Ratan Lal Nath told reporters that Rs 6.15 crore has been deposited so far in the Chief Minister’s Relief fund in Tripura, to fight the coronavirus crisis in the state.
“The people of our state have also donated money for the relief fund and have helped the poor and needy people across the state. Till Saturday we have deposited Rs 6.15 crore in the fund. Today, many groups, groups, individual, NGOs and social clubs have come forward to donate money,” Nath said.
Later, the officials of Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport here distributed candles and masks to cleaning staff, trolley retrieval staff and grass cutting staff.
