Dec. 21: Assam Futuristic Communication has set up an international call centre at the Software Technology Parks of India, Borjhar.

The park’s director general, S.N. Zindal, will inaugurate the unit tomorrow. Information technology commissioner V.S. Bhaskar and director of IIT Guwahati, Gautam Baruah, will be present at the ceremony.

The park’s director, P.K. Das, said the unit, the first international call centre facility to be set up in the state capital, would be totally export-oriented. “This will send a strong message to the IT entrepreneurs of the region that there still is a lot of scope in the sector, which can be tapped,” he said.

The unit will have a capacity of 24 seats initially and will do business with the UK, the US and Australia. “There are no problems of connectivity and the required bandwidth is also there,” Das said.

The centre maintains an international gateway via an earth station situated on its Borjhar premises. Besides that, the park also maintains a Hub Centre at the Institution of Engineers (India) Building at Panbazar. It is capable of providing Internet as well as International Private Leased Circuit services. Software exporters, IT entrepreneurs and Internet users can avail the services from both the Earth station and the Hub Centre through radio connectivity or BSNL leased circuits in different configurations according to their requirements.

The park maintains built-up space at the Earth Station complex in Borjhar to be used by IT entrepreneurs for their business development.

It also maintains incubation facility at the Hub Centre in Panbazar.
