Dancer-researcher Menaka P.P. Bora announces the news of the invitation she received from the British Museum of London to lecture and perform Xattriya - Assam's only classical dance form - re-enacting the story of Lord Krishna's childhood in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, depicted in Assam's 16th century 9m tapestry - Vrindavani vastra. Given by a correspondent of The Times magazine to the British museum, Vrindavani vastra was a rare drape woven by skilled Assamese weavers under the supervision of the medieval Vaishnavite saint Srimanta Xankardeb and his chief disciple, Madhavdeb.
Bora said she would deliver her lecture on March 7, mentioning the dying culture of Majuli and rhino poaching in Assam.
She will perform on March 18, in which she will include colour interpretation to re-enact scenes woven on the drape and talk about textile-making in Assam.
