Weather warning

• Guwahati, April 20: The Borjhar-based Regional Meteorological Centre has today issued a warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over the next five days in different parts of the Northeast.

"Heavy rainfall or thundershowers are very likely over Arunachal Pradesh during the next five days. Heavy showers are also likely at many places over the Northeast during the next 24 hours and the subsequent four days," RMC director Sanjay O'Neil Shaw told The Telegraph .

Bail granted

• Guwahati: The special court, Assam, on Thursday granted bail to suspended APSC chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul, in a case of alleged corruption as police failed to file a charge-sheet within 90 days. Paul, however, will remain in judicial custody as his bail application in another case is pending in the Supreme Court.

Surgery

• Dhemaji: Ivani Saikia, 15, of Ratanpur village in Upper Assam's Majuli district, has been admitted to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital and is awaiting surgery to remove three safety pins from inside her stomach, which she swallowed accidentally on Monday.

Final hearing

• Guwahati: The Meghalaya bench of Gauhati High Court on Thursday fixed June 2 as the date of final hearing of a PIL filed in 2015 by Wanbok S. Lyngdoh, a former civil servant in Meghalaya, that sought a CBI inquiry into procurement of high security number plates allegedly at higher rates.

• Guwahati: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday made a surprise visit to Basistha police station here and took stock of the deployment, register, manpower, and overall infrastructure. Sonowal said the state government was taking several steps to improve police forces.

• Guwahati: Kamrup (metro) deputy commissioner M. Angamuthu on Thursday announced the opening of a district-level committee to inspect private hostels, orphanages and child care facilities following the alleged torture of an eight-year-old differently-abled kid at a special residential school on Tuesday.

Arrested

• Aizawl (PTI): Three militants belonging to Bru Democratic Front of Mizoram were arrested in south Mizoram's Lawngtlai district near the Bangladesh border, state home minister R. Lalzirliana said on Thursday. Two AK-47 rifles and 39 rounds of ammunition were seized.

Rebel held

• Kokrajhar (PTI): An NDFB (S) linkman, Pranjit Basumatary alias Tengna, was nabbed from Gossaigaon of Kokrajhar district on Wednesday night.

Guwahati: Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday hailed the Union cabinet decision to do away with the red beacons atop cars of ministers, bureaucrats and VVIPs and directed everybody in the state to remove the red light 
immediately.

Guwahati: President of Boro Women’s Justice Forum Anjali Daimari has been invited to the 16th session of United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues at the UN headquarters in New York, from April 24 to May 5.

Guwahati: Golaghat district administration has declared Friday a holiday because of Birangana Sati Sadhani Divas. Government offices in Golaghat, revenue and magisterial (executive) court and educational institutions will remain closed.
