Medhi joins AAP

Guwahati, Jan. 24: Former KMSS general secretary Kamal Kumar Medhi joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday, the party's joint-coordinator of Assam, Gurpeet Singh Upaal, announced here today. Medhi would be bestowed with the important portfolio of observer of the Northeast, Upaal said.

Bodo faith

Kokrajhar: The Bodo traditional faith, Gwthar Bathou San, was observed in different parts of Assam on Tuesday. The Bathou Traditional and Cultural Centre observed it at Bathou Thansali here with a da-ylong programme. BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary was the chief guest.

Civet cat

Kokrajhar: A civet cat was rescued from Jumduar in Kokrajhar by the BJP district committee. The animal was later handed over to the field director of Manas National Park.

Programme

Guwahati: The Nagaland department of social welfare, along with the Nagaland State Resource Centre for Women, organised an awareness programme in Kohima to promote the status of girl child in society on the occasion of National Girl Child Day on Tuesday.

Sirish awards

Guwahati: Noted Assamese poet Samir Tanti was on Tuesday named the recipient of the 3rd Sirish Festival literary award for 2017. The Sirish award in the cultural section will be conferred on artiste Ram Sasoni.

Road mishap

Jorhat: Nayan Bhattacharjee, 23, who was riding a motorbike, was killed after a truck hit him at Hukanpukhuri in Moran in Dibrugarh district.

BRO meet

Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on Tuesday took stock of the condition of the Balipara Charduar Tawang Road in a meeting with BRO officers at the DC's chamber. Land acquisition cases, compensation and other issues with respect to BRO roads in Tawang district were also discussed.

Awareness

Guwahati: The 14 Assam Rifles on Tuesday organised an awareness programme at Old Changlang village on infrastructure development, women empowerment, students' welfare and health awareness ahead of Republic Day. Around 113 people attended a free medical camp organised by the paramilitary force.

Pat for duo

Guwahati: Arunachal chief minister Pema Khandu congratulated young weightlifters Dejum Gadi (under-17 boys) and Balo Yalam (under-14 girls), who won gold at the Khelo India national programme at Sarusajai Sports Complex, Guwahati.
