Jorhat, Sept. 9: Assam State Reserve Force stormed past Tinsukia Railway Sports Club in the ongoing ATPA shield football tournament at Jorhat stadium here today.
The police team defeated the railway outfit 6-4 via tiebreaker. The teams were drawn 1-1 at the end of scheduled time.
Gonesh Saha found the net for the railway squad in the 27th minute while Dwipen Teron equalised in the 40th minute.
Tomorrow, Assam Police Blues will take on local outfit Istantic Club.
New Market win
Favourites New Market XI won the inaugural tie of the fourth NSF Martyrs’ Trophy championship, defeating United Hakka 5-4 in a tiebreaker today, reports Nishit Dholabhai from Kohima.
Seyiekhrieto of New Market scored the first goal of the match in the 80th minute but a foul in the dying minutes of the game allowed Hakka to equalise through a spot kick taken by striker Kekhrieseto.
In the tiebreaker, Hakka missed the first shot, while captain and goalkeeper of New Market Rupfü made two brilliant saves to see his team home.
The tournament has been organised by the Angami Students’ Union in the memory of Vikhozo Yhoshü, who died during the protest against the proposed extension of the disturbed area belt from five to 10 km along the Indo-Myanmar border in 1986.
The semi-finals will be held on October 8 and 9 while the final will be played on October 10.
