Shillong, Aug. 22: Assam footballers Durga Boro and Alen Deory will feature in the North East United FC team for the upcoming Indian Super League.

The team is co-owned by Bollywood star John Abraham, Shillong Lajong FC and Guwahati businessman Sanjive Narain. It has 14 domestic players from the I-League, besides international players.

Boro first played the under-14 Subroto Cup for Assam in 1999 and the under-16 National Sub-Junior Football Tournament in 2001. He then joined SAI in 2002 and was part of the under-16 India camp in 2002 and 2003.

In 2004, Boro joined Oil India FC, and was later offered a contract by former I-League champions Churchill Brothers.

He played for the Goa side from 2009 to 2012 before moving to Mumbai Tigers FC.

The 27-year-old striker joined the ranks of Shillong Lajong in January this year, and in the recently concluded domestic player draft by the Indian Super League, Boro was handpicked by North East United to be a part of the 14 domestic player’s squad.

“I am very happy and excited to play for North East United. It is a dream come true playing against good players, knowing their style of play and of course playing under good and experienced coaches and managers,” Boro said.

Deory, 19, was recently signed by Lajong from the AIFF Elite Academy in Goa. At 13, he was selected to play for the national junior team and later joined SAI in Guwahati where he played in the Subroto Cup under-14.

The young striker had joined the prestigious Tata Football Academy in 2011 where he played only for three months.

He took up the opportunity to go to the United States to play for the IMG Academy in Florida for two years.

Deory had also represented India in the AFC Cup Qualifiers in Qatar in 2013 before making his move to I-League outfit Shillong Lajong in June this year.

Recently, he was selected by the coaching staff to be part of the domestic player squad of North East United FC.

Deory said, “I am happy that I have been given the chance to play for North East United. It is like a dream come true for me to be part of such a big tournament. I look forward to giving my best for the team.”

Guwahati will be the home of North East United during the inaugural edition of the Hero Indian Super League scheduled to be held in October this year.
