Armed with good health

The headquarters of the inspector-general Assam Rifles (North) and the headquarters of 5 Assam Rifles and 26 Assam Rifles organised a health camp with the help of Red Cross, Kohima, at 5 Assam Rifles on June 10. Nearly 500 villagers of Zhadima and its nearby areas were given free treatment and medicines at the camp.

The medical camp consisted of medical, dental, gynaecology, pulse polio, HIV/AIDS information, homoeopathy, pathology and veterinary cells.

The residents were also counselled on various diseases. A recruitment information cell was established to motivate local youths to join the armed forces.

People were also advised on animal management and disease prevention.

A veterinary unit treated domestic animals. They were de-wormed, vaccinated, examined and their owners provided free medicine. The villagers were advised to rear livestock. They were told that raising pigs and poultry would lead to economic prosperity.

Addressing the gathering, Brig. H.G.V. Singh encouraged the people to help strengthen the economy of the region.

Ground gift

With the aim of providing adequate facilities to sportspersons and sports enthusiasts, 40 Assam Rifles has constructed a football ground at Tsungiki village.

The ground was built under the aegis of the inspector-general Assam Rifles (North) and headquarters of 5 Assam Rifles with the help of 51 Engineer Regiment.

Commandant of 40 Assam Rifles Col. Jaychandran inaugurated the ground on June 6.

The inaugural function evoked great enthusiasm among the youngsters and students of the village who appreciated the efforts of Assam Rifles. The village elders and student leaders expressed their gratitude to the Assam Rifles for extending their support to the project.

Expedition

A team of students that went on an Assam Rifles-sponsored educational tour to Delhi and Agra returned to Kohima on June 4.

The group comprised 24 students who visited places of educational and historical importance.

The students got a chance to interact with National Council of Educational Research and Training authorities. A special documentary film was screened on the occasion. In Kohima, Brig. H.G.V. Singh, 5 sector commander, 26 Assam Rifles, welcomed the group.

Addressing the students, Brig. Singh expressed happiness over the successful completion of the journey. He said it was heartening to know about the good conduct and interest displayed by the group during the course of the tour.He said he was confident that each one of the students would carry sweet memories of the places they had visited and also share their experiences with other children.
