A scene from Nakenthagi Wangmadasu |
The weak storyline of Nakenthagi Wangmadasu (Beyond Autumn), screened before the media recently, is compensated by a talented cast.
Interestingly, it is the first Manipuri video film production of Tarung Lairembi Films and also marks the debut of Nava Volcano, the seasoned singer of modern Manipuri song, as director.
Thanks to good frames, good camera work and excellent performance by the artistes, the film — though a run-of-the-mill type with a simple storyline — is expected to attract audience when it will be released shortly in one of the cinemas of Imphal city.
Though the poor continue to be the victims of those in power, hard times do not persist and give way to better days.
Poor Sanahal (seasoned actor Kaiku), son of Thambal (Mema) — a widow who ekes out a living by running a tea stall — meets Yaiphabi (played by Manipuri heartthrob Sonia).
She is the only daughter of Ibohal (played by Volcano), the director of a government department.
But Laiba (Rojesh), the son of minister (Diya), sets his eyes on her.
False charges are slapped on Ibohal and subsequently he is sacked.
After going through a harrowing time, the couple and the widow live happily ever after.Volcano is also the music director of the film. He also uses daughter Natasha as the playback singer.
With Naobi, also another well-known singer, the songs could make up for what is lacking in the film.
Unlike in other Manipuri video films, the makeup of the artistes is without heavy paintings and garish apparel.
It is a melodramatic film, but if some irrelevant scenes are cut out, could go down well with the audience.
