34 marooned villagers rescued from Siang island

Air force, SDRF lead efforts to save Arunachal residents in flood-hit areas

Dhemaji: Altogether 34 people were rescued from flood-affected areas of East Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh by the air force, State Disaster Response Force, East Siang district administration and its residents on Friday.

A five-member air force team from Mohanbari airbase in Dibrugarh district of Assam rescued 19 persons stranded on an island of the Siang river under Sille-Oyan circle of East Siang district on Friday. The rescued were provided with medical check-ups and counselling by the East Siang district administration.

Another 15 people were rescued by locals and the SDRF from several flood-affected areas of Pasighat.

Defence PRO Lt Col P. Khongsai said the Pasighat district administration had requested the army to person in Siang river due to flooding was received on Mi-17 helicopter at 4.38 am The rescued people were shifted where they are taking shelter in camp opened by administration.reported to the state government that 30 people were stranded on an island of the Siang river under Sille-Oyan circle of the district for the past 24 hours and needed to be air-liftedof Mohanbari air force station, Dibrugarh,"I am busy with my farm and cattle, my two sons are working in Bangalore but I never so such flooding in 40 years. In 2000, during high flood, we were safe but massive siltation and rising of the river bed threw our family in trouble. My son's two minor children, my wife and daughter-in-law saved ourselves somehow on a bamboo platform. "In the last 36 hours we lived on chira and gur. This morning, hearing the sound of a helicopter we came out and the rescue team saw us. Thus we were saved." it said, adding. "We are keeping an eye on the situation," he said.

Dhemaji deputy commissioner R.A. Korati told The Telegraph when asked , she added "We are monitoring the situation which is normal till now," she said.to meet the up arising situation
