Guwahati: The Kamrup (metro) district administration has identified 20 sites for setting up Aadhaar enrolment centres in the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) area.
The greater Guwahati area will have 42 centres, of which 22 will be set up in the village panchayat area.

Officials said each Aadhaar centre will have two officials, a superviser and a verifier, to enrol names and identity. Their training started on Friday. Officials said the supervisors and verifiers will be enrolled in the Aadhaar system through a bank before they start working.
The general administration department of Assam had said on February 21 that Aadhaar enrolment would begin from March 27 and was likely to cover the present population within a year. Centres will also be set up at the zila parishad and town committee offices. Panchayat offices will not be covered for lack of power and Internet connectivity.
The Assam government had moved the Supreme Court to extend the March 31 deadline for linking Aadhaar with bank accounts and mobile connections, with 92 per cent residents in the state yet to be enrolled in the scheme.
Assam has enrolled only 7.3 per cent of its residents so far as the process was stalled in 2014 following concern over the citizenship issue.
Aadhaar is a 12-digit number issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) to all citizens. The enrolment procedure involves collection of biometric data like thumb impression, eye scan, a photograph along with age proof, address and identity for an Aadhaar number.
