Singer Zubeen Garg during a promotion of Mission China at Handique Girls College in Guwahati
Guwahati, Sept. 6: Mission China, an Assamese film by singer Zubeen Garg, will be the first to be released in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh the same day.
The distributor of the film, Goenka Enterprises, said it would be the first Assamese film to be released in Arunachal Pradesh. It is scheduled for release on Friday.
The film is directed and produced by Zubeen, along with his wife Garima Saikia Garg, under the banner of I Creation Productions. It features Zubeen and Deeplina Deka in the lead roles.
The film contains seven songs, with the actor as music director. 'Altogether 52 cinema halls will screen the film in the two states,' an official of Goenka Enterprise told The Telegraph.
Stating that there have been encouraging bookings for the film, an official of Goenka Enterprises said, 'In the past few days, the team of the film got overwhelming support in their promotional events all over state. So we are sure that this film will be the blockbuster of the year.'
'We are hoping to get a huge response from the audience as well. The film will release in two theatres of Shillong and one theatre in Mirjuli of Arunachal Pradesh,' Garima told The Telegraph.
Reacting on the first Assamese film to be released in Arunachal Pradesh, cine journalist Bidyut Kumar Bhuyan said, 'Bhupen Hazarika did a joint project of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, which was screened in both the states. But till now no Assamese film was released in Arunachal Pradesh on the same day of release with Assam. So Mission China will make history.'
According to Zubeen, it is the highest big budget film in the history of Assamese films, with a total cost of Rs 2 crore.
Moreover, before its release, the producer of the film was being forced to change the place of the premiere.
Garima said earlier they had booked Cinepolis multiplex here for a premiere tomorrow. 'However, at the last minute, the management of Cinepolis informed us that they will not run the show due to some technical problem. There was conflict between the Cinepolis and Central Mall managements. Ultimately we shifted the show to PVR cinema,' she said.
This incident was followed by protests all over the state by fans and followers of Zubeen. Last evening, a group of fans also staged a demonstration on the premises of the mall.
The incident was also criticised by various organisations, including the All Assam Students' Union.
