Paloma and Adil perform live at Phoenix at The Astor on November 18. “We played after a very long time and that made the gig even more fun. Phoenix is restarting its live music on Thursdays and for us to open the night was great. There’s a certain satisfaction to receive energy from the audience and perform under the warm stage lights that we have strongly missed,” said Paloma Majumder.

The live music scene appears to have taken a step in the right direction. Phoenix at The Astor hotel has restarted its Thursday Live sessions and restarting the weekly nights are Paloma and Adil (PandA). They took the stage on November 18 and live music enthusiasts came over to show their love for the music scene while the duo offered a good share of original songs and covers (with a side of jokes). The Calcutta-based duo performed songs like Fly A Little, Monkey Mind and, of course, the crowd favourite Disco Panda, complete with their signature dance move. Fun, happy and upbeat, Paloma and Adil know what the audience wants. Adil’s guitar strumming with his MIDI controller and Paloma’s playful voice made for a happy vibe.

Indrani Banerjee (left) was happy to be back for a live gig with friend Divya. “Attending a Paloma-and-Adil gig after what seems like eons. It feels fantastic. I love them and their music. Not Done Trying and Monkey Mind have been playing on a loop this entire lockdown,” said the IT professional and queer rights activist.

Sneha Gupta, who enjoys PandA’s tunes, was in the audience. “I try not to miss their gigs. Paloma and Adil are really a fun duo to watch live,” she said.

Dancers

The first few people on the dance floor had to be Paloma’s family, Saswati, Joy and Kumarjeet Majumder. “The gig was like freedom from the long pandemic fear psychosis through good music, excellent venue and super combo offers,” said Joy.
