Former Z-pop (music for Generation Z) member Sid Arora is keen to explore musical diversity through his artistic direction. With a string of releases and a dedicated fanbase, the singer is looking forward to expand his musical horizon. In a recent visit to Kolkata, the singer chatted with The Telegraph. Excerpts.
Could you tell us about your latest release?
My latest release is Zarurat, which is a very dark song. It is about a guy who is not getting the love he wants. He truly wants to be with the girl he likes but does not want any hostility to come between them. All my releases have been a mix and they are all different from each other. I just wanted to experiment a bit and try out different genres and music styles. That is what it is right now.
How did your musical journey start?
Actually, it almost started ever since I was born. I think everybody is born with a purpose and for me, it is this specific purpose of spreading art, of spreading the truth via music and this genre of creativity. I have been interested in it ever since my childhood.
How was your experience as a K-pop star? As a part of Z-Boys?
I was always in a seclusion-like mindset of being alone and isolated but here, I got to contemplate my whole aura, and realised that I could merge with other personalities. It was really unique for me because I had never heard of K-pop before but then I entered the industry itself. So, it was quite a dichotomy that I got there.
Did the experience help you grow?
When you travel and meet different people, you cultivate a different personality that you might not have been aware of yourself. When you see people cheering for you, different sounds, different voices, you observe people. Everything is a journey and all of it sorts out in a way. It is what it is and everything helps in the long run.
Since you talked about experimenting, is there any particular musical experimentation that you want to carry out?
Anything which hasn’t been done before or sounds bizarre on paper, I want to try it. If it sounds really impractical, I want to do it in the music world. My whole artistic direction has been to experiment to represent utmost diversity.
