Dipak Das, a businessman from north Kolkata, was shot inside his office on Wednesday in a fallout of business rivalry, police said on Thursday.

A person has been detained and a hunt has been launched for Rakesh Das, Dipak’s relative and prime accused in the murder case.

Dipak was fired upon inside his chamber adjoining his grocery shop on Keshab Chandra Sen Street in North Kolkata around 4.30pm. He was first rushed to Calcutta Medical College and later to SSKM Hospital where he succumbed to the bullet injuries.

The police have learnt Rakesh had visited Dipak with his associate and had allegedly fired two bullets.

“The victim and the prime accused had been locked in a battle over payment over a business deal. Wednesday’s tiff was based on this,” said a police officer.
