Kolkata woke up to overcast skies on a windy Monday morning because of a weather system over the Bay of Bengal.

The depression intensified into a deep depression and lay centred over northwest Bay of Bengal close to southeast of Chandbali at 5.30am on Monday, according to an alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

It would move west-northwestwards across north Odisha and north Chhattisgarh and weaken gradually into a depression during the next 24 hrs.

An IMD Kolkata alert on Monday morning said: “Thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rainfall likely to affect over some parts of Kolkata and Howrah districts of West Bengal during next 1-2 hours from 08:40 hours IST of today the 13th September' 2021.”
