CISCE National Sports & Games Tennis Tournament 2022 inaugurated

Around 240 students from India and the UAE to participate

The CISCE National Sports & Games Tennis Tournament 2022 by the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) was inaugurated at the Bengal Tennis Association in Kolkata on September 26.

The tournament is being hosted by St. Francis Xavier School, Salt Lake, between September 26 and 30.

Around 240 students from all over India and the UAE have registered for the event in the boys & girls under 14, 17 & 19 categories. The winners of this tournament will get an opportunity

to represent the CISCE at the Khelo India games. About 250 students from 12 zones shall be showcasing the best upcoming tennis talent of the country who will be representing CISCE at the SGFI and the Khelo India Games.

The CISCE National Sports & Games Tennis Tournament 2022 kicked off after an opening ceremony which was presided over by Manoj Tiwary, minister of state for sports & youth services. The inaugural

ceremony was attended by Nitin Kirtane, tennis player (gold medalist); Arijit Basu, deputy secretary (finance), CISCE; Ranjan Mitter, principal of Future Foundation School & the regional coordinator for the

CISCE games; Sujoy Biswas, president, Association of Schools for the Indian School Certificate, National Body & principal of Ram Mohan Mission School; Ajay Chopra, secretary & administrator, St. Francis

Xavier School, Salt Lake; Anil Srivastava, officiating principal, St. Francis Xavier School, Salt Lake, and several others.

On September 30, the prize distribution and closing ceremonies will be presided over by renowned former tennis professional player Jaidip Mukerjea. In the intervening days, matches will be conducted from 10am to 9pm.

Ajay Chopra, secretary & administrator, St Francis Xavier School, Salt Lake, said, “It is a matter of great pride and privilege for St. Francis Xavier School to host the CISCE National Lawn Tennis Tournament 2022 which is seeing tremendous participation from all over India and even the United Arab Emirates.

Around 250 participants have registered for the tournament after winning at the regional level tournaments organised in the twelve zones. St. Francis Xavier School and its management, staff and students are excited to play host to the schools and ensure that the tournament is held in the highest spirit of sportsmanship and that a team emerges which can bring laurels for the Council at the forthcoming SGFI and Khelo India games.”
