A suspected arms dealer from Bihar’s Munger district and three others have been arrested from north Kolkata with an improvised carbine with a dual magazine and 10 pieces of improvised semi-finished pistols and counterfeit Indian currency notes.
Officers of the special task force of Kolkata police who made the arrest said Mohammad Imtiaz, his son Mohammad Sahil Mallick and two of their associates, Indrajit Sharma and Vickey Prasad, have been arrested in connection with the case.
“The arrests were made based on specific information from our sources. During raids we found one iron-made improvised carbine with a dual magazine, 10 pieces of iron-made improvised semifinished pistols and high-quality counterfeit Indian currency notes amounting to Rs 50,000,” said an officer of the special task force.
The father and son are from Bihar, while Sharma is from Narendrapur and Prasad from Bhowanipore. A senior officer said, police were trying to find out who Mohammad Imtiaz and his son were trying to supply the consignment of weapons and fake currency notes.
Sharma and Prasad were the local conduits who were apparently providing logistic support to the father-son, police added.
“The accused persons were produced before the court on Thursday and remanded to police custody for 14 days,” an officer said.
The group has been charged under sections dealing with the offence of possession of forged and counterfeit currency notes and sections of the arms act.
