A woman from Agarpara in North 24-Parganas was found dead in a gorge on Friday while on her honeymoon trip to Kinnaur in Himachal Pradesh.

Jayita Das’s body was recovered from a gorge adjoining a tourist spot labelled “suicide point”. Police said she was taking a selfie when she fell, resulting in her death.

Jayita and Rahul Poddar of Paikpara in north Kolkata had left for the trip on March 4. On Friday, they reached Kinnaur. Hours later Jayita’s body was recovered from almost 500 metres below.

Jayita’s family has demanded a probe into the death. The police have spoken to the husband and the driver of a car that the couple had hired.

Rahul has reportedly told the cops that he was present at the spot when Jayita was taking selfies. He also told the police that they was not aware the site Jayita had chosen for a selfie was “accident-prone”.

The “suicide point” in Kinnaur is around 3km from Kalpa village on way to Roghi.

Police said in December 2020, a woman had died after falling into a gorge nearly 1000 feet below while clicking pictures from a spot close to the “suicide point”.
