When it comes to planning a wedding, there’s always so much to do. No wonder, the bride and groom appoint their closest friends and family to assist them sail through the celebrations. With wedding season in full swing, we’re sure there are tons of wedding parties you have to attend to. So, here’s a list of all the essential duties the best man, maid of honour, bridesmaids and groomsmen should know about…

F(p)unny speeches

One of the primary duties of the Maid of Honour and the Best Man, who are usually the bride and groom’s best friends, is to raise a toast (read roast) for the happy couple. The speeches are known to go down in time, so make sure to add chock full of embarrassing anecdotes, misty-eyed memories and chuckle-worthy puns.

Pulling a Houdini with groom’s shoes

Stealing the groom’s shoes is as important a tradition as any other. And when all eyes are fixed on the bride, stealing the shoes becomes an absolute breeze. Make sure to use the opportunity as cleverly as you can because you won’t get another chance anytime soon.

Psst: Steal the bride’s shoes too — to even the playing field!

Conduct dance practices

A wedding party is incomplete without a series of dance performances. Make sure all group performances are well-choreographed and completely in sync. Conduct practices — in person or online — so that your BFF’s sangeet is a huge hit. Song selections are key here, so pick both the bride and the groom’s most-loved songs.

Real-time social updates

Post exciting content on Instagram. How else will others, who are not invited to the wedding, know what’s going on?

Make sure the vows are funny (but not as funny as your speech)

Help the bride and groom with their vows. Keep it traditional with promises of love — through sickness and health, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer — or take it up a notch higher with a sentimental speech like Preston Burke’s in Grey’s Anatomy.

Psst: Remind them to say the right name. No one needs another Ross Geller.

Pull EVERYONE to the dance floor

Once the choreographed performances are over, the dance floor needs to be packed at all times. Curate a peppy playlist, make sure the DJ is well-versed with the vibe and genres preferred and the evening will be hard to forget.

Personal chauffeur

If you’re a part of the bridal party, a full tank of gas, a valid driver’s licence and a sound sense of reasoning are a must. Should your to-be-wed friend decide to act on his/her cold feet, you need to be well-prepared. Figure out if they’re making the right decision. If yes, slip into your role of a personal chauffeur ASAP!
