Decked up in the classic Yuletide colours of red and white, the Royal Calcutta Golf Club was a merry spot on Christmas Day. The Telegraph Royal Calcutta Golf Club X-Mas Feast presented by Black & White Ginger Ale Non-Alcoholic Carbonated Beverage saw members and guests drop by for the annual Christmas luncheon. With a scrumptious array of dishes, live music and the choicest of drinks, happy vibes was at the core. Although the harsh sun seemed unbefitting of Christmas in the city, guests enjoyed to their fullest, with their friends and family.

Greig Francis belted out a number of tunes during the afternoon, including old-school classics from The Beatles and Backstreet Boys, to the melodious Night Changes by One Direction, and more. Of course, the classic Christmas songs including Feliz Navidad got people nodding along.

Club speak

“We try and do this every year and it is one of our biggest calendar events. Everybody seems to be enjoying all the Christmas delicacies that have been arranged. I have gone from table to table asking the guests how they like it, and everyone seems to be having a good time,” said Rohan Ghosh, captain, RCGC, with first lady, Nandini Ghosh, by his side.

A signature dish of the club, the stuffed Roast Tom Turkey was a warm delight with hints of smokiness and complemented by the sweet but light cranberry sauce. An extensive salad bar was present for guests to have some tidbits as well as freshen up their palate in between bites. There were a range of vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian options available. St. Tropez and Spinach & Cottage Cheese Roulade in Saffron sauce were some delightful vegetarian options. The live pasta counter saw guests queuing up for rounds of their favourite pasta. The bar had the choicest selection of drinks for guests with a wide range of options in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. “We have been arranging this lunch for the past five years and it is always a pleasure. The focus is on continental Christmas favourites like turkey with cranberry sauce and plum cake with ice cream and more,” said Aninda Palit (inset), director, 6 Ballygunge Place.
