After almost a decade, legendary Bangla bands will perform at the Netaji Indoor Stadium on Sunday for “Band-E-Mic”. The high-octane event has created a huge buzz among music lovers. Most tickets have been booked. My Kolkata is the digital partner for the event.
The show will kick-start with the performance of Fakira and end with the Fossils’ show. Each band will be given a time-frame of 45 to 75 minutes to perform. Fasten your seat belts and get to know more about the six bands which are set to rock the stage.
This dynamic band has emerged as a force to be reckoned with in the music world. With their infectious energy and eclectic blend of other music genres with folk, Fakira has been captivating audiences across generations. The band, which released their first album in 2014, is known for its experiment with folk music. Fakira's power-packed shows have earned them a dedicated fan base and their music reflects the spirit and diversity of Bengal. “After so many years, a multi-band show is taking place and it feels great to open the show. We are expecting a huge footfall and a rocking moment,” said Fakira’s percussionist Bunty.

Since their formation way back in 1998, this band has been a household name in West Bengal and beyond. Known for their energetic performances and soulful melodies, Fossils has redefined the rock music scene in Bengal. Led by the charismatic vocalist Rupam Islam, the band has released numerous chart-busters that resonate with the youth. Fossils' music is a perfect blend of hard-hitting rock riffs, poetic lyrics, and soulful compositions capturing the essence of love, rebellion, and societal issues. With their immense popularity and dedicated fan base, Fossils continues to have an evergreen appeal among all generations. “Several popular bands would perform and that’s special. With people’s anticipation, a Woodstock-type concert is being curated. Besides, we don’t get to see Bengali Band concerts at Netaji Indoor stadium every day,” said Fossils frontman Rupam Islam.

This renowned Bengali band has left an indelible mark on the music scene of West Bengal. Lakkhichhara's songs reflect the joys and struggles of everyday life, resonating with a wide range of listeners. Their mesmerising performances and powerful stage presence have made them a favourite among music enthusiasts. “All these bands used to perform together in the late 90s till the mid of 2010. In order to relive that nostalgia and culture, this concert is really special for us,” said band member Debaditya Chaudhury.

The band has taken the music industry by storm with their soul-stirring melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Led by singer-songwriter Anupam Roy, the band has carved a niche for themselves in the hearts of music lovers. Known for their unique blend of folk, rock, and contemporary sounds, the Anupam Roy and Band creates music that resonates deeply with listeners. From chart-topping hits to emotionally charged ballads and Anupam Roy's captivating voice effortlessly captures the essence of human emotions. “It’s a very rare kind of a show and if it’s successful then it would be an annual affair. We would majorly perform popular songs, but one special surprise will be there from us,” said Anupam Roy.
Cactus in concert
This legendary Bengali band has left its ever-lasting impression on the music industry with their originals in rock and folk genres. Formed in the late 1990s, Cactus pioneered the fusion of rock, blues, and folk elements, creating a unique musical landscape. With electrifying performances and powerful lyrics, they often address social issues and personal struggles. Their enduring popularity and contributions have solidified their position as one of the most iconic and influential bands in Bengal. “In the past 10 years, such a huge concert with Bengali bands has not happened. So, along with the usual songs, we will revive a hit song Kobita hobo Kobi dao. We haven’t sung that song for years,” said Cactus vocalist Sidhu.

This Bengali band has been a trailblazer in the realm of music since its formation in the late Eighties. Combining elements of rock, folk, and traditional Bengali tunes, Chandrabindoo has created a distinct musical style. The band's lyrics, often witty and socially relevant, touch upon a wide range of subjects, including love, politics, and everyday life. With their continued innovation and timeless appeal, Chandrabindoo remains a symbol of musical excellence in the Bengali music industry.
“We are really excited that so many bands are performing. There was a time when Bengali bands were extremely popular. This seems to be a comeback concert for Bangla bands,” said Chandrabindoo’s vocalist, Upal Sengupta.
