Kolkata’s most cherished festival is set to be showcased like never before on a global stage. The Delphic Culture Summit will be held in the city from October 12 to 14, blending great festive food and sightseeing with quality conversations, amplified by the intellectually potent atmosphere of the city.
Curated by the International Delphic Council, the summit aims to connect people to their roots. The organisation is a twin of the Olympic Games, tracing its common origins back to 2,600 years. “The Delphic spirit is all about connecting people through art and culture, much like what the Olympics do with sport. Through this summit, we are revitalising our ideas by rejuvenating small cultural nuances of Kolkata. Given how big a socio-cultural phenomenon Durga Puja is, we wanted to have it as our backdrop, making for quality discussions and learning experiences with domain experts,” said Ramesh Prasanna, secretary general of the International Delphic Council.
Apart from a host of speaker sessions, the summit will comprise experiential events, too. The next few days will acquaint the guests with several nuances of Bengal, including clay idol making, mask-making, and other indelible parts of the state’s heritage, with Durga Puja acting as the perfect setting for the experiences. The festive spirit has already kicked off, with an eco-friendly fabric-based Durga Puja being unveiled at Techno India Main campus in Salt Lake Sector 5 on Wednesday, October 11.
“Even beyond religion, Durga Puja is the largest public arts and culture festival in the world. The idea is to showcase our city at its prettiest, to those who have never seen it before. Apart from 70 people coming from around the country, we have 20 overseas guests which include ex-members of Parliament, CEOs and eminent culture journalists. We want to showcase this side of our city on this common platform,” said Meghdut RoyChowdhury, president, Delphic Council of West Bengal.
