The Calcutta Swimming Club hosted a gala Monsoon Carnival in association with t2 on June 18 at the club premises. Consisting of a myriad of fun games and activities, the carnival gave everyone an experience they would always remember. It comprised a series of competitive and non-competitive games that participants took part in, enthusiastically. The challenges were a mix of the familiar and unfamiliar, including a treasure hunt, an obstacle wall, a beer race, a relay race with a unique twist, and even a frozen pool game with exciting prizes. There were four teams competing for the top prize, which would be awarded to the team that had won the most games during the day. Most of the games involved the participants going into the pool and having a lot of fun as well.
“We have been organising this event for about 10 years now. This event has continued to be a raging success because of the novel games which are played here in an absolutely friendly atmosphere. Apart from children being interested in swimming, this is more about aquatics, which encourages young talent. Later on, they become budding swimmers that the club has always wanted,” said Rahul Singhi, sports chairman, The Calcutta Swimming Club.
One of the most challenging yet popular games was the Obstacle Wall challenge where contestants had to walk safely through a narrow path across the width of the pool by supporting themselves against a wall, from which punching gloves would pop out randomly, trying to throw the contestants off balance, into the water.
