Since I enjoy my work, I can beat stress with comparative ease. Being an actor, it is extremely important to adapt to different work schedules and keep fit since work shifts may, at times, involve 24 hours a day. I generally try to remain unperturbed even during hectic periods. Outdoor shooting can be very demanding, so I try to make the most of my time at home.
I love junk food, especially phuchka, bhelpuri and batatapuri. I love eating out and believe that it is a great way to socialise with family, friends and relatives. I make it a point to eat at restaurants at least 10 times a month. Such outings ease the pressure at work on a regular basis.
If I am fit, I must admit my fitness is natural and I never consciously work towards acquiring an exceptionally attractive physique. It has never occurred to me to go out of the way to take care of my health. Seldom, if ever, have I applied skin lotion or cream to make my skin soft and supple.
I always believe in taking things as they come. I don’t believe in being part of the rat race. Celebrity status has very little significance for me. I believe all human beings share the same physiological characteristics and it would be prudent for people to bear this in mind.
For me, every day is a new day with all its wonders and uncertainties. I believe in the here and now rather than dwelling in the distant past or the near future. A broadminded attitude in life can relieve one of tension and duress.
Time management is a key factor in fitness. Often, people get swamped by a medley of chores. So I usually try to space out my activities. In my teens, I played for the Under-19 Bengal team and was a rock band drummer at the same time.
Home is where the heart is
nI wake up at around 8 or 9 in the morning if there is no shoot and help myself to a breakfast of eggs, bread and coffee. My wife and daughter keep me occupied at home and I enjoy meeting friends. I love listening to all kinds of music ? from Rabindrasangeet to hard rock. I visit the gym as often as possible. It is usually three to four times a week. Sometimes if my work schedule gets too demanding, I have to give it a miss. I practise weight training as and when required.
Eat, drink and be merry
nI love sports and I’m obsessed with cricket. I always avail of the opportunity to play badminton at the Tollygunge studios. It keeps me physically and mentally fit. Lunch generally consists of chapatis, fish, chicken or mutton. I am not at all fussy about what I eat. I have no special preference for vegetarian or non-vegetarian food and do not follow the advice of any dietician. Nor do I go by the rules of any diet book. I consume alcohol occasionally. Soft drinks also find their way in at least once a day.
Get enough sleep
nGetting enough sleep is important as it provides complete rest to the mind and body. If I am at home, I make it a point to sleep in the afternoon. Watching good films is part and parcel of my personal and professional life. My taste in films is eclectic, though I like watching everything from classic Hollywood films to Bengali commercial ones.
