Week-long display for Bengal handicraft

Ranchi, June 21: Efforts on women empowerment has brought handicraft at an affordable price from Bengal to the state capital courtesy the exhibition-cum-sale at the International Library and Cultural Centre.

Jute bags, soft toys and other handicraft items made by women belonging to self help groups in Hooghly are displayed at the week-long exhibition organised by NGO Ichamati Rural Development Society.

At the inauguration, chief general manager of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, K.C. Shashidhar lauded the effort and urged that more such ventures should be organised.

“We are working specially for the women empowerment and thus have organised an exhibition of products from Bengal.While Shikha Das of Hooghly has made jute bags, Rajbankshi and Sudha Pal have made the soft toys,” said Gopa Mukherjee, the society secretary.

All the women at the stalls are from Bengal itself. All products are affordably priced between Rs 20 and Rs 800.
