Jamshedpur, Jan. 29: A fine 98 by Mithun Dutta and an enterprising 48 by Surjeet Singh of Jamshedpur proved futile as Ranchi posted a 38-run victory over the host on day two of senior inter-district (Elite Group) cricket tournament for HP Bodhanwala Trophy at College Ground today.
In other matches, Dhanbad won over Bokaro by six wickets at Shaheed Nirmal Mahto Stadium while Giridih beat West Singhbhum by three wickets at Telco Ground.
Jamshedpur had things well under their control while chasing a target of 244 runs. Both Dutta and Singh played responsibly after an early departure of skipper Ishank Jaggi and opener Maninder Singh Kalsi. Just when it looked that the hosts were sailing comfortably, Singh fell leg before to Arun Vidyarthy’s ball. The introduction of spinners put brakes on the easy flow of runs. Jamshedpur managed 205 before getting dismissed in 44.2 overs. Arun Vidyarthy was the top wicket-taker with 3/29.
Earlier, Ranchi scored 243 for 9 in the stipulated 50 overs. Siddharth Raj Sinha (53) and S.P. Gautam (62) batted well to help their side reach a respectable total. For the host, seamer Rahul Shukla picked up 3/27 while Surjeet Singh and R.K. Mohanty managed two wickets apiece.
Dhanbad pacer Vikash Mishra utilised the conditions well to devastate Bokaro with a five-wicket haul. Electing to bat first, Bokaro was out for a meagre 99 in 34.4 overs with Mishra claiming 5/29 in a fiery spell. Sujit Roy picked up 3/20. In reply, Dhanbad reached the target in 18.4 overs with opener Ratan Kumar (31) and Aamir Hashmi’s 39-run not out knock.
