A mechanic of Gopalichak Colliery at Putki Balihari area of BCCL, 8km from Dhanbad, atop the roof of a 30-feet high pulley on Tuesday morning to protest against the delay in handing over the keys of his residential quarters allotted more than two years ago. Shambhu Sharan Yadav's Sholay-like stunt created quite a stir in the area. Senior officials of the colliery, led by project officer DK Mishra and accompanied by officer in charge of Putki police station Albuminus Lakra, met him and promised to hand over the keys of his quarters around 10am, more than two hours after he had climbed up to the roof of the pulley. Yadav came down, but because of certain procedural issues, the officials could not hand over the keys to him. Yadav then went back to the roof for the second time and no amount of pleading would bring him down. It was only when the officials provided a written assurance that he would be given the keys to his quarters after a week that Yadav decided to come down. "I had been allotted quarters at Gopalichak on December 20, 2014. But, the BCCL administration is yet to hand over the keys to me. I have been compelled to live in the fire affected area of Basuria which is a huge risk to me and my family," Yadav told The Telegraph. Text by Praduman Choubey; picture by Gautam Dey
