Two BIT Sindri students selected for 12-week Canadian internship

Every year around 283 students from India, China, Brazil and Mexico are chosen for this project

Two B.Tech (Mining) Engineering students of BIT Sindri, Amar Kumar Gupta and Rishabh Singh, have got selected for the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship, 2022, a highly competitive initiative that attracts researchers to over 70 universities of Canada to undertake research projects under the guidance of professors in specific areas.

While Amar Kumar Gupta will be carrying out research on the project, titled Fibre Reinforcement Technique in Mine Backfilling at Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, another student, Rishabh Singh has been selected for the project titled Applying Machine Learning Methods for the Mine Discipline at the University of Alberta, Montana.

The 12 week project for both the students will begin during the month of May 2022 and will continue till October.

The internship provides opportunity for the students of Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Mexico, Pakistan, Taiwan, Tunisia, Ukraine, United Kingdom and United States to undertake 12 week research internship under the supervision of Canadian University faculty members in several academic disciplines including science engineering, mathematics, humanities and social sciences.

As part of the internship programme, the selected students get a daily allowance of 42 Canadian Dollar i.e around Rs 2501.52 and 800 Canadian Dollar as Housing cost that accounts for around Rs 47648.

Every year around 283 students from India, China, Brazil and Mexico are selected for the internship. Full time undergraduate or combined undergraduate/ master’s programme with one to three semesters remaining in their programme.

Talking to the media, Ghanshyam Rai, Training and Placement officer of BIT Sindri, said, “The achievement of BITians at International Forum proves the talent and hard work of our students”

He further said that during the last year also five B Tech (5th Semester) students of the institute including two girls were selected for the same internship.

The selected students of last year included two girls of B Tech Chemical Engineering, Afsha Izhar and Sneha Kumar and three boys, including Abhinav Prakash of Electronics and Communication Engineering; Milan Kashyap of Civil Engineering and Ashutosh Kumar of Mechanical Engineering.

Both Afsha Izhar and Sneha Kumari carried out projects at Cape Breton University, Sydney. Abhinav Prakash pursued the internship at Lakehead University, Thunderday, Ashutosh Kumar carried out research at Superior Technology School, Montreal, Quebec while Milan Kashyap carried out research at Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
