Traffic curbs for Puja ease

Dhanbad traffic police have worked out restrictions on all major roads in the coal capital to tackle commuter rush for the four days of Durga Puja from Saptami, October 8, onwards.

Dhanbad traffic police have worked out restrictions on all major roads in the coal capital to tackle commuter rush for the four days of Durga Puja from Saptami, October 8, onwards.

First, heavy vehicles, including trucks and mini-trucks, cannot enter the town from 8am to 3am. This apart, petrol tankers and buses will also not be allowed in the city from 2pm to 3am.

DSP (traffic) Ashok Kumar Tirkey, said vehicles, including buses and light vehicles like two-wheelers, cars, autos coming from Bokaro and Katras will go towards Bartand bus stand through JP Chowk (Bank More), Birsa Munda Chowk, and Shramik Chowk.

"Vehicles travelling to NH-2 in Govindpur from Dhanbad bus stand will have to go through Hirak Point, Hirak Road, Gol Building and Bhuiphore while those coming from NH-2 should follow the same route," said Tirkey.

As far as auto-rickshaws running between Dhanbad and Govindpur towards Steel Gate are concerned, they can travel till Saraidhela Thana More only.

Public vehicles will be out of bounds from Kolakusma More to Steel Gate while there will be no-entry curb for vehicles from Telephone Exchange Road to Pani Tanki-Howrah Motors. Besides, vehicles going from Dhanbad towards Jharia will have to go through Telephone Exchange More and Joraphatak.

Vehicles going from Barmasia towards Howrah Motors will have to turn towards Tikia Para in Manaitand to reach Howrah Motors.

To ensure proper implementation of the traffic plan, installation of barricades and drop gates at 24 major points across the district will start in a day or two.

This apart, installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras at 40 strategic places in the district is likely to be over by Tuesday.

"Installation of over 200 CCTV cameras across the district has already begun to ensure strict vigil during the Pujas. The cameras are likely to be functional from tomorrow (Tuesday)," said the DSP, adding the that the cameras would be linked to the district control room from where the footages would be monitored.

These CCTV cameras are in addition to the cameras being installed at pandals by puja committees.
