Traders-police install 16 CCTV cameras at strategic locations in Hirapur market

The move is triggered by growing incidence of loot in commercial areas

Taking a serious note of an alarming increase of loot in shops and commercial institutions in the coal town, traders under the banner of Hirapur Park Market Chamber of Commerce have extended logistical help to Dhanbad Police to ensure better surveillance of one of the most popular markets, Hirapur Market. In total, 16 CCTV cameras have been installed at six strategic locations of Hirapur and the Park Market area including three each at four crucial road squares at Madhav Apartment square, Park Market Jharna Para Square, Vivekanand Chowk and near Janta Pharmacy (Court More).

This apart, two high definition cameras have also been installed at Maa Kali Sari Store in Hatia market of Hirapur while two cameras have been placed at Children’s Park of Park Market which also caters to cark parking at the Park Market.

Talking to The Telegraph Online today, Sanjeev Chaurasia, President of Hirapur Park Market Chamber of Commerce, said, “The installation drive has been launched as part of a Rs 5-lakh project to ensure better surveillance of market areas and nine other cameras will also be placed at other crucial locations including, near Madhulika Sweets, City Style Mall, Tiwari Hotel and others.”

Divulging more details, Binod Agarwal, secretary of Hirapur Park Market Chamber of Commerce - one of the 55 units of Federation of Dhanbad Zila Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FDZCCI), added, “We have established the control room of the CCTV Cameras near M Bazar of Park Market and regular monitoring of footages is being conducted by the office bearers of the Hirapur Park Market Chamber of Commerce.”

“Two-year maintenance of the CCTV cameras has been assured by the installation agency while the electricity billing and others would be managed by the Chamber of Commerce with the help of shopkeepers,” said Agarwal adding the police during the meeting with office bearers of the chamber of commerce have been insisting on the installation of CCTV cameras since long.

Manish Ranjan, treasurer of Hirapur Park Market Chamber of Commerce said, “ Besides the CCTV cameras we also have plans to hire security guards to be deputed at different places across the district for which some preliminary work like hiring an agency and other formalities are required.

Notably besides the CCTV cameras installed by Hirapur Park Market Chamber of Commerce, 110 cameras were installed by the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation in 2017 at the cost Rs 3.28 crore at 27 important road squares of Dhanbad.

Manoj Swargiyari, ASP of Dhanbad Police while lauding effort of the Hirapur Chamber of Commerce, said, “Every section of the society needs to be on alert and work in tandem with each other to ensure a safe and secure society.”
