No Skype too high
Gurdeep Singh Pall (BIT-Mesra, Class of 1987, computer engineering) has recently been appointed corporate vice-president of Skype, the free international voiceover and messaging service, by Microsoft Corporation. Confirming this, B.B. Pant, BIT-Mesra dean of external relations and coordination, said: “Pall is a role model for today’s BITian.” Pall, who also holds a master’s degree in computer science from the University of Oregon, joined Microsoft Corporation in January 1990 as a software design engineer, rose up the ranks and worked on breakthrough products. As corporate vice-president, he headed the information platform and experience team in Microsoft’s new applications and services division. He also has over 20 patents in networking, VoIP and collaboration areas and has co-authored Institutional Memory Goes Digital, published by Harvard Business Review and presented at World Economic Forum 2009 in Davos, Switzerland
Tata wows Taipei
Jojobera-based Tata Power’s quality control team Synergy bagged an excellence award at the International Convention for Quality Control Circles, Taipei in Taiwan. The Tata case study that bagged the award helped setting up a monitoring mechanism that enables a pump to run for the desired time span. CIL foundation day
Central Mines Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDIL), a Coal India Limited (CIL) subsidiary based in Ranchi, hosted two events on November 1 and 6 to celebrate CIL’s foundation day. Partha S. Bhattacharya, former chairman
of CIL and chief guest of the November 6 event, said CMPDIL had, over the decades, played a major role in enhancing the image of CIL and stressed on environment-friendly mining and sustainable development by coal producers. Bank Lok Adalat
Punjab National Bank (PNB) will hold Lok Adalats in Ranchi on November 22 and 23. Lok Adalats are held at various places in the country to dispose cases through arbitration and fast settlement, free of cost. The bank has prepared notices from its office for 23,222 non-performing asset borrowers across all districts of the state covering all branches in the circle and involving Rs.164.82 crore
