SAIL hot metal

A two-day expert committee meeting on iron-making was held at Ispat Bhavan, RDCIS, SAIL, on December 20 and 21. Executive director in-charge (RDCIS & CET) Raman, who inaugurated the meet, said 2014 would be a landmark year in the history of blast furnaces of SAIL as it would witness a quantum jump in hot metal production. “Existing furnaces in units across India, including the recently commissioned one at the Rourkela Steel Plant, shall take SAIL hot metal production to new heights. The coming year will see furnace and stove upgrade as well as furnace capital repairs in integrated steel plants,” Raman said. Delegates deliberated on the production potential for 2014-15 and major related technical-cum-economic parameters. General managers from integrated steel plants of Durgapur, Bokaro, Bhilai, Rourkela and Burnpur spoke on strategies for quick stabilisation of upcoming blast furnaces

Jamipol honour

Jamipol Limited, a joint-venture company promoted by Tata Steel, SKW Stahl Metallurgic GmbH, Germany and TAI Industries of Tashi Group, Bhutan, won the active promotion for TBEM (Tata Business Excellence Model) award for 2013. The company’s managing director Adarsh Agrawal received the honour from Tata Motors vice-chairman Ravi Kant at a special event held recently at Taj Coromandel, Chennai. TBEM, a quality benchmark assessment model across the Tata Group, covers business aspects that range from strategy and leadership to safety and climate change and encourages continuous improvements

B-school blizzard

The RPG Group of Companies organised RPG Blizzard 2.0, a brainstorming contest on real-time contemporary business challenges for students of tier-I B-schools on December 15 at at IIM-R. The host proved to be the most worthy of the champion’s title, as Blitzkrieg, a three-member IIM-R team of budding managers comprising Manogana Narayanam, Nishant Chauhan and Rasa Rahul won the contest as well as a cash prize of Rs 50,000. The solution-providers also got the epithet of campus experts

Furnishing a lifeline

Avaran Plus, a furnishing company, hosted blood donation and eye check-up camps jointly with Space, another firm, at Roshpa Tower, Ranchi, on December 15. The organisers also held a rally on cycles, cycle-rickshaws and two-wheelers to make needy people aware of the age-old saying “health is wealth”, said Murari Lal Agarwal of Avaran Plus. Ranchi deputy mayor Sanjay Vijayvargiya and his predecessor Ajay Nath Shahdeo were present on the occasion
