Power launch

Patratu Super Thermal Power Project, whose first-phase expansion foundation stone was laid online by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 25 from Dhanbad, is a joint venture of Jharkhand government and NTPC subsidiary Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam, with 74:26 cost sharing ratio. Eighty-five per cent of its generated power would come to the state. Of the projected 4,000MW capacity, the first phase aims at 2,400MW from three 800MW units. The second phase will add 1,600MW from two 800MW units. The plant will have new emission rules, dry ash disposal and zero-liquid discharge

Tata Motors  

Tata Motors released its annual financial results for 2017-18 on May 23. Company spokesperson Pallavi Roy said the wholesale (including export) grew 17 per cent to 636,968 units in the year 2017-18. Revenue increased 32 per cent to Rs 58,457 crore and pre-tax loss reduced to Rs 947 crore. Market share in commercial vehicles gained after seven years and for the second year in a row in the passenger vehicle category. Retail sales grew 1.7 per cent year-on-year to 614,309 cars

Green contests 

Environment management, sports and corporate communication departments of Tata Steel held painting and debate contests on UNEP’s theme Beat Plastic Pollution in Jamshedpur on May 19. As chief guest, Jharkhand State Pollution Control Board regional officer Suresh Paswan urged all to reduce plastic use in daily life. Around 400 children took part in both contests. Paintings were evaluated by Rajesh Bajpai and Jaspal Singh from Jamshedpur School of Art. Debates were judged by Tata Steel corporate communications’ Prity Jha and R. Shubhra. Winners will be awarded on June 5, World Environment Day

Cementing biz ideas 

Dalmia Cement (Bharat), Jharkhand State Livelihood Promotion Society and rural development department held a training in Ranchi on May 18 for 80 members of Sakhi Mandals (women self-help groups) on starting their building material business. Women learnt aspects of cement business such as product, construction practices, distribution and accounts
