Ranchi: You don't need to worry about attending to nature's call while visiting the scenic waterfalls near the capital.

The state tourism department has tied up with Ahmedabad-based Lallooji & Sons to install mobile air-conditioned toilets, each approximately priced at Rs 5 lakh, near tourist hotspots and the famous waterfalls near the capital city will be among immediate beneficiaries.

"The mobile toilets were kept near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Morabadi on Tuesday for a demo in front of state tourism minister Amar Kumar Bauri. We have plans to install at least three such loos near Jonha, Hundru and Dassam falls by the middle of this month on a pilot basis when tourist footfall is expected to increase. We have tied up with Lallooji & Sons for operation and maintenance of the washrooms. Gradually, such toilets will be installed at the popular tourist destinations during peak seasons across the state," tourism deputy secretary Bidyanand Sharma Pankaj said.

The three waterfalls, which witness a surge of visitors especially during the summer, have very few toilets that are not maintained properly.

"The toilets, most of which stink due to the lack of regular cleaning, force tourists to relieve themselves in the open," a source in the tourism department said.

The Ahmedabad-based firm will ensure daily cleanliness of the mobile facilities.

"The mobile toilets will have three loos each for men and women along with three urinals. They will have attached overhead tanks and bio-digesters that use bacteria to digest human waste and turn it into biogas and odourless compost. The bio-digester will also treat waste water that can be used to refill the overhead tanks," Pankaj said.

Bauri said the toilets would be shifted from near the waterfalls during lean season to crowd-puller fairs and religious places.

"These facilities will be kept at fairs and religious places that attract a large number of tourists. It can be easily moved from one location to the other depending on requirement," Bauri said.

Meanwhile, a delegation of state BJP tourism cell, led by convener B.K. Narayan met Bauri on Friday and requested him to develop tourist amenities such as approach roads, toilets and night stay facilities besides beefing up security at places of tourist interest across state.
