Ranchi, July 29: Keeping in tune with latest technology and know how, Xavier Institute of Social Service (XISS) would be offering three new short-term courses.
The institute management has decided to start three six-month-long courses on management, rural development and insurance course from a mid August date.
The courses are expected to benefit both graduates and Plus-Two pass outs. The fee, it has been decided, would be within Rs 30,000, with 60 seats for each course.
Candidates would be screened on the basis of an entrance test, followed by an interview. For now, the social science school is providing four classrooms, syndicate rooms, a faculty lounge and a computer laboratory for the new courses.
XISS director Benni Ekka told The Telegraph that the short-term courses were created keeping those students in mind, who wish to work for NGOs or in small-scale industries. “The six-month-long rural development course would assist students interested in the social sector field. The courses are also meant for professionals already working in the field,” Ekka said.
The new courses would incorporate preparations, implementation and monitoring of NGO projects and as such would provide valuable inputs for professionals already working in NGOs or insurance companies.
“We would provide field exposure for all student. We believe those graduates who are unable to land a job due to the lack of a professional degree should benefit from these new courses. Thus, we are keeping them well within the reach of a student, who can’t afford an expensive course,” Ekka added. So far, candidates from both rungs — middle and lower-middle class — have applied for the courses. Besides, XISS also has a nine-month course in security management, incorporating industrial security supervisor and security courses. The faculty comprises retired SIS officers, as the institute has a tie-up with SIS, New Delhi, and XISS professors.
