Jamshedpur, Nov. 17: For six-year-old Satrupa Sen, the day unfolded just the way she had wanted it to. The solo dance performance she presented during the audition of “Dance, Masti Aur Dhoom” competition today at United Club, stole the heart of everyone present, including her parents, who had arrived at the venue well in advance.
From perfect synchronisation of the body and feet movement to the facial expressions, the little one had all the qualities of a promising dancer. She danced to the tune of a popular Hindi number. The judges for the solo dance had no hesitation in declaring Satrupa the winner in the 5-10 years age category.
The participants, including some from Calcutta and Orissa, went through the qualifying round for the mega contest ahead. They displayed their skills in the solo and group dances, which was divided into the age groups from 5-10 years, 10-18 years and 18-35 years.
Popular Hindi and western numbers blared from large loudspeakers installed inside the hall of the United Club. The judges watched each and every movement of the participants.
According to Roopali Patel, director of Episode, which will conduct the competition at the same venue on November 24, there were 69 participants for the solo round while the group round had 15.
“The efforts of Episode is to unearth creative talents in the steel city and provide them with a platform for their promotion. We are also giving them assistance in form of training and how to perform on stage,” she added.
Patel, who has earlier organised many cultural events in the city, said seven participants would qualify from each age group of the solo and group dance for the final round on November 24.
“The Devdas numbers Dola re dola and Kahen ched had the participants engaged in the solo group while Sharara sharara from Lajja was played on more then one occasion in the group category,” she said.
While Satrupa Sen, Aman Sinha, Prativa Paul, Virali Kumari, S. Kirtika, Priya Dutta and Gumit Kumari qualified from the 5-10 age category, Nisha Amin, Ashwini Verma, Keshal Ranpara, B. Shailini, Priyanka Singh, Alpa Kumari and Chintu Patra entered the finals from the 11-18 age category.
Elaborating on the mega event, Patel said preparations are almost complete.“Only finishing touches are being given. Though the sponsors for the event have not yet been finalised, it will be done soon,” she said.
The judges for the final round will be Renuka Singh, Meena Pradhan and Sudeshna Dhote. The chief guest of the evening will be Shuvra Mukherjee, wife of Tata Steel deputy managing director T. Mukherjee.
Applications for the audition are being received since October 17, the day when Episode organised a workshop on dance and music “The response for the competition has been tremendous. But we cannot allow everyone to participate. There are certain guidelines laid down by us. And audition is one of the criteria,” Patel explained.
