Teams battle at CCL cricket

Ranchi, Jan. 10: Displaying an all round brilliant performance, the Argada area team defeated the Kathara area team by 62 runs in the CCL Inter-region cricket tournament played at the Archery ground here today.

Thanks to a superb bowling attack, the Kathara team were restricted to a mere 55 runs, while chasing a target of 117 runs posted by the Argada team.

The Argada team won the toss and after electing to bat first posted a total of 117 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 23 overs.

Thanks to a quick-fire knock of 37 runs, which included two sixes by D.N. Singh, the team posted a huge total. In reply, brilliant bowling attack headed by Sushil Pandey, who also took four wickets after conceding 17 runs, the Kathara team were restricted to a mere 55 runs and lost the match.

In the second match played here today, the North Kanpura area team defeated their Kujju counterparts by 72 runs.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Kanpura team posted a total of 186 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 25 overs. Mohammad Habib, who was later adjudged as the man of the match, narrowly missed out on his half century in his otherwise brilliant knock of 47 runs.

In another match, the Central Workshop team defeated the Piparwar team by two wickets. The Piparwar team won the toss and elected to bat first. The team scored 174 runs for the loss of eight of their wickets in 25 overs.

In the last match played today, the CCL headquarters team qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament by defeating the Barkagarh team by three wickets.

In other cricketing events, the 2001 batch defeated the House Surgeon (HS) team by five wickets in the K. P. Srivastava Memorial Cricket Tournament played at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS)here today.
