A Class IX student of St Aloysius High School was killed in a road accident on Sunday when the motorcycle he was riding brushed a truck coming from the opposite direction at Patra Toli in Namkum police station area of Ranchi.

In an instance of triple-riding, the victim, Amit Gari, was accompanied by two friends — Krishna Kumar and Prateek Kumar.

The trio were in an inebriated state and none was wearing a helmet when the accident took place.

Amit was declared brought dead at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) while Krishna sustained injuries. Prateek escaped unhurt.

The accident took place around 3.30pm when the students were heading from Kawali village in Namkum towards Ranchi. The truck was on its way from Ranchi to Jamshedpur.

SP (rural) Asim Vikrant Minz expressed ignorance about the mishap, but officers at Namkum station confirmed it, adding that Krishna had been admitted to Rims.

Amit was a resident of Kokar while Krishna was from Kanta Toli.

“Amit fell on the road after his bike grazed the truck’s side portion while riding at a great speed. The incident would not have taken place if the students were not drunk,” a resident of Kokar said.
