Jamshedpur, Oct. 20: A team of senior district officials today inspected eight ghats, starting a special drive to spruce up over 12 major sites for immersion on Vijaya Dashami on October 24.
The officials visited Subernarekha Ghat in Sakchi, Kapali Ghat and Domuhani (Sonari), Bodhanwala Ghat (Bistupur), Pandey Ghat (Bhuiyandih), Substation and Sati ghats (Kadma) and Tusu Ghat in Bhuiyandih. They will continue the drive at the remaining ghats tomorrow.
“We cleared unauthorised khatals (cattle sheds) on riverbanks and approach roads. Corporate sectors have been asked to install lighting at the ghats and approach roads and assist local urban bodies in cleaning the sites. We want the ghats to be ready by October 22,” Dhalbhum SDO Kumar said.
The administration will reassess the ghats on Monday to check the intensity of lights at the point of immersions.
Local divers have been asked to be present on the day of immersion.
East Singhbhum civil surgeon Jagat Bhusan today issued a notification asking NGOs concerned to allow use of ambulances at the major immersion points.
“We will deploy doctors and paramedics with first aid kits and medicines in the ambulances,” he said.
