Jharkhand Archery Association (JAA) on Friday announced an eight-member squad for the 24th Senior Indian Round National Archery Championship to be held in Secunderabad from July 14 to 16.

The squad was formed after a daylong selection trial held at JRD Tata Sports Complex in Bistupur, Jamshedpur on Friday. Over 70 aspirants from different districts tried their luck in shooting over distances of 30m and 50m.

The aspirants, who shot with traditional bows and arrows, tried their best to hit the target. While some got successful, others missed the target.

Archers from Seraikela-Kharsawan and Silli got five berths while the rest three were secured by their counterparts from SAI branches of Ranchi and Bokaro.

The men's outfit comprise Gora Ho, Luthru Hansda (both from Seraikela-Kharsawan), Abhishek Kumar (Silli) and Amit Kumar (Bokaro) while Aarti Boipoi (Seraikela-Kharsawan), Deepti Kumari (Silli), Soni Kumari and Monika Kumari (both from SAI-Ranchi) were part of the women team.

Reena Kumari, Anjala Singh, Shishir Mahto and B. Srinivas Rao have been selected as mentors.

Coach Rao, a mentor at government-run cradle at Dugni near Seraikela, said he was happy that his wards Gora and Luthru won berths in the state squad. "One of my wards Naga Hansda could not attend the trials as he broke the string of his bow. Otherwise he had a bright chance of getting selected," he said.
