A sharpshooter of A-Company, who was involved in the fatal gun assaults on Jamshedpur businessman Upendra Singh and his close aide Amit Rai, was arrested in Bihar late on Sunday night.

Sudhir Dubey (32), a key henchman of gangster Akhilesh Singh who lives in Bagbera when in the steel city, was one of the four shooters who had targeted Amit in Sonari on December 6. He was also actively involved in the conspiracy against Upendra, an arch-rival of Akhilesh who was shot dead in Sitaramdera civil courts on November 30.

East Singhbhum SSP Anoop T. Mathew said Dubey, a native of Dhakaich village in Krishnabramha police station area of Rohtas district, was nabbed from near Shahpur block office in Bhojpur district, some 75km from Patna.

"Dubey was visiting a relative when he was arrested. Our team had tracked his mobile phone, which had been put on surveillance after the murders. Dubey is one of the main shooters of Akhilesh Singh gang, also known as A-Company, is being brought here (Jamshedpur) on transit remand from Bihar. He is expected to reach tomorrow (Tuesday)," he said.

Another senior police officer added that they expected more arrests following Dubey's interrogation.

A former JMM leader, Upendra (56) was gunned down by two men at the Bar Building on the civil court premises last month. Shooters Binod Singh, alias Mowgli, and Sonu Singh, alias Vicky, were arrested from the spot. They spilled the beans on Akhilesh.

Six days after the murder, Amit (35) was shot dead near his house. Though no one had seen the shooters, the victim's father had named Akhilesh as the conspirator, and Sudhir Dubey, Kanhaiya Singh and Harish Singh as the shooters.

A source in police said Dubey and Kanhaiya were the main associates of gangster Akhilesh and were very much involved in the Upendra Singh murder too.

"We have requested an attachment warrant against Dubey," the officer added.
