HEARTBROKEN: Laura Marra at a Jamshedpur hotel on Friday

Jamshedpur: The Brazilian teen, who is in the steel city on a one-year Rotary youth exchange programme, was a picture of sorrow on Saturday after her home team crashed out of the World Cup in Russia the previous night.

Laura Marra (18) from Patrocinio in southeast Brazil, did not expect her country to be defeated by Belgium 1-2.

"I am sad like all Brazilians. Brazil crashing out of World Cup is very disappointing. I had said on Friday that the team would have to work hard . I was also a bit scared about the outcome," she said.

Laura said her mother Geralda, who runs a restaurant in Patrocinio, and friends in Brazil were equally sad.

On how she spent the day, Laura said she kept her mobile phone switched off for a long time and mostly kept to herself. "The World Cup has lost much of its charm with Brazil's exit. However, we Brazilans love football and I will watch the England versus Sweden's match in the evening," she added.
