Ranchi, Feb. 20: The matriculation and intermediate examinations are scheduled to start from tomorrow. But instead of utilising the exam eve for revision, students were seen scurrying to their respective schools and colleges all day for their admit cards.
While many schools and colleges have not received the admit cards yet, several students were baffled to find errors in the form of misspelt names and flawed details on the cards. As a result, they had to rush to their institutes at the last moment to get the mistakes corrected.
“We have received more than 15 admit cards full of mistakes since the morning. The errors were related to their names, father’s name, mother’s name and subject names. In many cases, the dates of birth were also wrong. The students were really tensed. We promised them that they will get the rectified admit cards by today evening,” said principal of St Xavier’s College Father Nicholas Tete.
Principal of Government High School, Morabadi, Akhilesh Kumar, said they have forwarded 20 admit cards to the council for rectification.
On the other hand, the institutes that are yet to receive the admit cards include St Xavier’s College, Marwari Women’s College, Marwari Boys’ College, Doranda College, Ranchi College and about 10 to 12 Government High Schools. However, the students were assured that they would get the cards by today.
The chairman of Jharkhand Academic Council, which conducts both the exams, Shaligram Yadav said, “We have asked the superintendents at the examination centres not to harass students, whose admit cards bear printing mistakes. If the errors are not rectified within the stipulated time period, we will allow the students to appear for the exams provisionally.”
Asked about the reasons behind the errors, Yadav put the blame on staff shortage and less computers.
“It will require another year to solve the problems. We are trying to acquire more computers and hire more people to run the examination department. At present, we are having to take the help of outside agencies,” the chairman said.
