Jamshedpur, July 27: Kerala Samajam Model School (KSMS) in Sakchi kicked off a “Safety Week” based on the theme of “Safety at home, road and back home” in its campus today.
The programme, aimed at providing tips to students on various aspects of safety that can be adopted in everyday life, began with a skit competition among the four houses of the school -- Charity, Hope, Joy and Peace. The Charity house was declared the winners.
Chief guest Chandra Sharan, convenor of SAFE club (Safety Awareness for Everyone) appreciated the efforts of the students and asked them to perform street plays to increase safety awareness among auto, van and bus drivers.
The school had conducted a meeting of van, auto and bus drivers on July 24 to discuss traffic rules and problems. The drivers were instructed to put safety bars, carry a fewer number of children and drive smoothly to avoid accidents.
“The ‘Safety Week’ will not only make students aware about road safety they would also learn to take care of themselves at all places. We would also like our children to perform at public places to generate more awareness,” said Nandini Shukla, the school principal.
A poster making competition for students of various classes was also held today.
Students came up with posters such as “Stop accidents, before they stop you” and “Wear helmet or hell met”.
The “Safety Week” will include various activities for students of all classes such as quiz, slogan writing competition, extempore speech competition and film screenings on road safety. The school has also introduced a hazard hunting competition to spot risky areas inside the school premises.
