The state sports department on Friday formally released this year's School Games Federation of India (SGFI) calendar for the district, block and state-level tournaments.

The schedule has already been sent to districts that will host the events.

According to the calendar, Ranchi will host the state-level wrestling and wushu meet in the month of September and October. Bokaro has been selected to conduct similar meets of athletics, kabaddi and volleyball this month. Simdega will host the state hockey meet while Gumla will conduct football and badminton tournaments. Kho-kho and archery will be held in East Singhbhum and Seraikela-Kharsawan, respectively.

The tournaments will be for school students - both boys and girls - in the age group of Under-14, 17 and 19. But before the state meets, all the districts will have to hold block and district-level meets.

According to a sports department official, in some games like the archery, wrestling, volleyball, badminton and wushu, there will be open trials at the block and district-level tournaments owing to less number of participants.

Uma Shankar Jaiswal, lone district sports officer in the state, said that this year's calendar got delayed by a couple of months owing to late arrival of funds from the SGFI for conducting the games.

"Due to some technical reasons, we got the money in July and thus the meet got slightly delayed. However, we still have time for preparation before the national meet," he said. "We have made the schedule in such a way that we will get a months' time for organising camps before the nationals in all discipline," Jaiswal added.
