Jamshedpur, Oct. 21: Four senior serving and two retired officials of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam (JBVNL) deposed before DSP (headquarters-II) Kailash Karmali in Jamshedpur today in connection with a multi-crore power bill scam that took place in Singhbhum electricity supply area between 2002 and 2010.

Karmali said the officials were questioned as part the ongoing SIT probe constituted by DGP D.K. Pandey.

Those quizzed today were Ramesh Thakur (general manager, Hazaribagh), Sudhir Singh (superintending engineer, Hazaribagh), Shiv Kumar Srivastava and Pravin Kumar (senior accounts managers, Ranchi), Anirudh Prasad Singh (retired general manager, Singhbhum), R. Prasad (retired executive engineer, Chaibasa).

"Today, six JBVNL officials, serving and former, gave their statements. Two others could not turn up due to health issues," Karmali told The Telegraph, refusing to elaborate on the findings.

The DSP said they were probing into the role of all those officials who were posted in the Singhbhum supply area between 2002 and 2010.

A few months ago, seven other senior officials deposed before DSP (Patamda) Amit Kumar and his predecessor Amar Pandey.

In 2010, the scam came to light, exposing four billing companies - Crystal Computers, VXL Computer, Prakriti Enterprises and Infosys Soft Data, entrusted for meter reading and preparing bills, #at Bistupur thana

But, when the police submitted a charge-sheet against the four companies, they did not mention anything about the role of power board officials. The companies then approached Jharkhand High Court, pleading that the case be quashed as the investigations were incomplete.

Taking cognisance, the high court ordered a thorough investigation into the scam.
