A decision to change an Ignou exam centre in Dhanbad has enraged students.
Nearly 1,245 students of the Ignou centre at PK Roy Memorial College will have to appear for the open university’s term-end examination from June 1 at Guru Nanak College in Bhuda, 6km away. Earlier, the exams were held at the home centre itself.
Dhanbad MP P.N. Singh and a few students’ organisations have written to Ignou vice chancellor M. Aslam in Delhi with a request to consider the decision, citing Guru Nanak College’s inconvenient location and lack of transport.
“Students from distant places like Gomoh, Topchanchi, Bokaro, Sindri, Rajtanj, Tundi and Hazaribagh find it easier to reach PK Roy Memorial College on NH-32,” said Sashi Shekhar Yadav, central committee member of Yuva Chhatra Jagran Manch.
Although Ignou regional director Shiva Kumar said the decision was taken to ensure fair exams, centre co-ordinator S.K.L. Das claimed: “Kumar wants to destabilise the centre. He has a grudge against me as I had complained about non-availability of study materials to regional service division of Ignou in 2011.”
