Ranchi, April 1: Justice (retired) of Jharkhand High Court Vikramaditya Prasad today submitted a 1,272-page report on the former vice chancellor of Birsa Agricultural University (BAU), accused of acts of serious omissions and commissions.
Prasad, the one-man inquiry commission set up by governor and chancellor of varsities Syed Ahmed, submitted his report at Raj Bhavan a day after the deadline expired.
On June 20 last year, governor Ahmed had initiated the inquiry, under the provisions of the Jharkhand Agricultural University Act, 2000, to probe "allegations of serious omissions and commissions by M.P. Pandey in his capacity as vice chancellor of BAU".
Raj Bhavan had ordered a freeze on Pandey's powers with instructions that the same be exercised by the commissioner of South Chotanagpur. It had pointed out that the action was a sequel to a litany of complaints received against the former BAU vice chancellor that ranged from arbitrary posting of officials without consideration for seniority or experience, theft of sandalwood and deliberately misleading the BAU's Board of Governors.
While the commission began its probe, Pandey completed his three-year tenure on September 1, 2014. "I was initially given three months to probe the matter, which was extended till March 31 this year. I completed my report on March 28, though the submission was delayed as the governor was out of station. The main report is of 250 pages," Prasad said, refusing to divulge contents.
