Ranchi enters DPS semis

Ranchi, Aug. 28: Delhi Public Schools (DPS) of Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Dhanbad and Nalco Nagar entered the semifinals of the East Zone Inter-DPS under-14 cricket tournament.

DPS Ranchi defeated DPS Guwahati by 107 runs in the quarter-final played at the Heavy Engineering Corporation Limited grounds here today. DPS Guwahati was bowled out for a mere 72 runs while chasing the Ranchi team?s 179 runs.

Earlier, the Ranchi school won the toss and after electing to bat posted a target of 180 runs for the loss of just two wickets. Utkarsh, with a personal best of 72 runs, remained the top scorer for the team as he played shots all round the wicket.

In another quarter-final, DPS Jamshedpur defeated DPS Dhaligaon by eight wickets to enter the semifinals. DPS Dhaligaon could manage to score 40 runs. In reply, the Jamshedpur team reached their target in just 7.5 overs.

In another quarter-final match played between DPS Dhanbad and DPS Bokaro the former won the match by 45 runs.

The Dhanbad team won the toss and scored 97 runs in 24.3 overs after electing to bat first. Although Tushar started off well by knocking theball to different parts of the grounds, he got out cheaply on a personal score of 18 runs while Pushkar scored 15 runs.

In reply, the Bokaro team score could not stand up to the tight and disciplined bowling attack of the Dhanbad team and bowled the former out for 52 runs in 16.3 overs.

In the last of the quater-final match played at the HEC ground here today DPS Nalco Nagar defeated DPS Nazira by 11 runs to enter the last four. The finals of the tournament are scheduled to take place on August 31.
